When we left off, we had made a nice graph about changes in Net Sales.
Now let's anchor in on something a little bit different.
It's going to be a two-axis graph measuring profitability.
So again, let's start on our Income Statement, but this time, let's grab just our Net Income
numbers.
Let's go to insert.
This time, we'll pick a nice 2D line graph.
Let's cut that, place it back to our Dashboard, paste it in there with the graph selected
then.
Let's select format, and we set our shape.
Size would be a three tall by a 4.3 wide, and that should fit me onto there.
We're going to change the chart title this time to be profitability, and hit enter.
And let's go ahead and make that bold too.
And now we have a nice line graph that we're going to customize by under chart design.
Let's add some chart elements.
Let's add some data labels, and let's put those data labels above my graph, and then
let's click onto them so that they're all selected, and hit B to bold them.
And now we've got a nice profitability line graph.
Like before, let's get the years on the x-axis by choosing select data, and editing that
access data range, and let's go out and grab our years 2026 to 2030 so that we can see
those down below.
Now I also want to add a graph that shows me a percentage instead of dollars.
So the way I'm going to do that is first we're going to select data, and we're going to
change this series, and we're going to edit that one, and we're going to call that one
Net Income, since that's the data that it has on there, but you have to be able to type
well, which you know I can't.
So let's call that Net Income, and after we have our Net Income, let's add a new one,
and this one is going to be net Profit margin, and those values are going to come off the
Income Statement, and we'll let it be those last row of values, and click OK, and click
oK again, but you see how terrible it looks because there are such small numbers that
i actually want to get a different y-axis over here, so I'm going to do that by choosing
change chart type, come to my combo area, I'm going to have them both be line graphs,
but this orange values, I want it to have a secondary axis, where then I can see my
values on the right hand side measured, but I don't like how these small percents are
on top of big dollars, so I'm going to click on to my axis, and then like before, under
format, format selection, I'm going to tell it instead that I would like the minimum to
be a negative.01, and I'd like the maximum to be a.15, and then that way I get my graph
to have a line beneath it, qualified by the right hand side.
Let's give this a little bit of pop by selecting on all of those particular values, and then
under that format selection, let's go back to the paint can, let's give it a border that's
a solid line, and how about we use that same dark blue color that we've been using previous,
and now we have a nice profitability graph that on the blue line that's labeled and bolded
shows me in dollars my profits, and then on the orange line I have these percentages,
which may be then best shown in the end by adding one last element on the chart design,
let's go ahead and add that legend on the top so we can see exactly what the blue is
versus what the orange is, and now we have a nice profitability 2y axis graph measuring
dollars and percents to complement our Net Sales. In the next video we'll go ahead and
we're going to build another type of comparative graph, this time on the Balance Sheet side.
We'll see you then.
